Our client, a civilian employee working on a U.S. military base, was seriously injured due to the negligence of a subcontractor performing renovation work inside an aircraft hangar. Without proper warnings or safeguards, the subcontractor installed a temporary wooden door frame on the hangar side of an existing door and left a raised wooden threshold at the base. The door remained accessible and was not locked or marked with any hazard signage.
Unaware of the newly constructed obstruction, our client opened the door and attempted to walk through, just as she had done countless times before. The hidden wooden frame caused her to trip and fall violently, resulting in neck injuries and a concussion.
By proving that the property owner’s failure to maintain a code-compliant and safe staircase directly caused our client’s fall and serious injury, we was able to secure a $750,000 recovery. This result was achieved after the case had stalled under prior counsel, and our client was grateful to finally receive justice and meaningful compensation.
